Save The Date Cards
Save the date cards are usually sent out when you are planning a wedding far in advance, and want to make sure your guests keep your wedding date free.
These cards are usually sent at least 5 to 6 months prior to the wedding day, but if it is a destination wedding or a wedding held on a holiday weekend, they should be sent 9 to 12 months prior to the wedding.
Save the dates are required when guests need to travel to your wedding and need to book accommodations, transportation, or make any other arrangements prior, during and/or after the wedding celebration, in which case it is helpful to provide your guests with additional details such as hotels, car rental, etc.
Save the date cards may vary from formal cards that resemble
wedding invitations to informal postcards, brochures or save the date
magnets that you can personalize according to your wedding theme or your personal taste. There are also enclosures that you can include with your card, such as your engagement photo, or the information on flights, and other facilities in the surroundings.
Keep handy your guests' list and check to see whom you will send save the date cards making sure those persons also receive a wedding invitation, common mistakes some brides make in the belief that sending a save the date card substitutes the wedding invitation.
Your hold the date card must include the following information:
- Names of the Bride and Groom.
- Date of the wedding.
- City, town and state of where the wedding will take place.
- The express mention of "Invitation to follow", "Invitation will follow", or "Invitation and details to follow", placed at the bottom of the card so your guest may know this is a save the date card and not the wedding invitation.
